Dunnikier v Drummond Trininty
ESCA Division 3, Saturday 20th June 2009
Lost by 37 runs
Drummond Trinity 209-9 v Dunnikier 172 a/o
Dunnikier lost to Drummond Trinity by 37 runs on Saturday, their first home defeat this season.
Drummond Trinity, on winning the toss, decided to bat first and started extremely slowly against the Dunnikier opening bowlers Cutter and Braid. Cutter in particular was very parsimonious conceding only nine runs in his 10 over spell.
After 20 overs, Drummond Trinity had only scored 43 runs, however from there they started to take the upper hand. All the Drummond Trinity top order made good starts, with Nasir reaching 50, whilst three others made scores in excess of 20.
"DTs" final score of 209 was helped no end by an anaemic fielding display by the home side who too often failed to back up decent bowling. Sorrell picked up three wickets with Kilminster (2), Mahmood and Skeene the other wicket takers.
Dunnikier started the chase with pinch hitter Mahmood savaging the DT's opening bowlers. Partners Drysdale and Braid (senior) succumbed early before Mahmood perished for an entertaining 20.
Brian Cutter continued the chase with a well measured 39 before holing out at long on, a surprising dismissal given the current golden run that Cutter is enjoying. Krzyzanowski, playing for the first time this season following injury, looked in fine nick, being particularly aggressive against anything short, playing the pull shot with gusto to reach 36.
With Dunnikier on 127 for 6 after 36 overs things looked bleak for the Kirkcaldy side, not helped by the run out of the dangerous Kilminster for 11 whilst Sorrell managed only 19.
Dunnikier were eventually all out for 172 in the 45th over, 37 short of their target. Skeene finished not out 5 when Booth was last man out.
